Captain's Day for Junior - 26th June 2021

Junior Section Competition Results - Captain’s Day for Juniors (26th June, 2021)

REPORT

‘Captain’s Day for Juniors’ on Saturday was hosted by the Captain, Arthur Doherty. A tremendous entry of 16 junior members in total competed for 18 hole stableford and 9 hole medal competitions. Prizes were awarded to 1st & 2nd in the ‘older’ section together with nearest the pin on 7th hole, and 1st, 2nd, 3rd in the ‘younger’ section also with nearest the pin in 2 on the 7th hole.

In the ‘older’ section, we have considerably fewer players, but they are returning good scores off the white tees. Harrison Foxall was the winner of the Captain’s Prize with a score of 36 points, with Peter Malkin runner up with 31. Peter was also the winner of the ‘nearest the pin’.

The ‘younger’ section is getting stronger as the season progresses, and all the juniors are returning very consistent scores. The two leading scores were excellent, with Spencer Pickin finishing second with a 4 under par score of 32. However the winner with a brilliant 6 under par score of 30 was Elliott Leake, recording his first junior win. In third place, competing in her first junior competition, was Grace Pennington with a great score of 37. The winner if the ‘nearest the pin’ was Theo Khalifa (3.24m)

Not only are the numbers increasing in the junior section, but we also have 3 girls competing (and winning prizes!!). Hopefully this will encourage others in the future.

I would like to thank the Captain for providing the prizes, and hosting a meal after the competition. Arthur has also generously donated a new trophy for the 9 hole competition to supplement the main Captain’s Prize, and Elliott Leake is the first recipient of this trophy.

Captain’s Day for Juniors

The Captain, Arthur Doherty, will be hosting the next Junior Competition on Saturday, 26th June. There will be a meal in the Clubhouse followed by the presentation of prizes. As with the President’s Day competition the 9-hole meal and prizes will be separate to the 18-hole. Both will follow the completion of each competition.

President's Day for Juniors - Saturday 15th May 2021

The President, Simon Nadin, hosted the President’s Day for Juniors last Saturday when 15 (out of a possible total of 22) junior members competed for the Best Nett, Best Gross, & Best Nett (Blue Tees) Trophies.

The Junior Section is in a ‘rebuild’ phase, which is not unusual, partially related to Covid, but mainly related to ‘age gaps’. Greg’s Junior Academy is developing a new route to the junior section, and this was shown by an entry of 11 juniors in the ‘Blue Tee’ category. The term ‘Bandit’ is well known to experienced golfers, and the winner of the Best Nett Trophy in this category is an early candidate for this title!! Having won the Blue Tee May medal 2 weeks ago Theo Khalifa was the winner with a nett 28 (Gross 46-18 Handicap). It was great to see the girls dominating the other prizes in this category, with Matilda Rushton runner-up, and Millie Salmon 3rd.

For the ‘older’ category we have made the decision that any junior who ended as a junior due to age in 2020 is still eligible this season due to all junior competitions being cancelled last year. Although there were only 4 entries, the scoring was good for the conditions on the day. Hayden Dimmock was winner of the Best Nett Trophy with a score of 71 (84-13), and the Best Gross Trophy was won by Harrison Foxall with 80.

On behalf of the Junior Section I would like to thank the President for his support, and for providing prizes, food and drink (Chicken Nuggets always work!!). It was also great to see so much parental support, which we always encourage.

President's Day for Juniors - Saturday 6th July 2019

The recent good weather unfortunately took a break for the 2019 Presidents day for Juniors.

A small field braved the elements which did not affect the scoring with some fantastic cards being returned.

The Presidents Prize was awarded to the best stableford score with Harry Fearn beating Peter Malkin into second place, both scoring 40 points but Harry winning on countback.

The best gross score also went to Harry with a fantastic round of 66. Harry finished the front nine two over par but six birdies and three pars on the back nine resulted in a magnificent four under gross score. Well done Harry.

Second place went to Peter Malkin with 40 points and third place to Zarak Curly with 39 points.

The two nearest the pins went to Zarak Curley on the 4th and Dylan Kirkby on the 9th.

The prize presentation took place in the clubhouse and the juniors enjoyed an excellent meal with the President Mr Brian Cockersole.

The results were as follows:

Overall winner – (Best Stableford) Harry Fearn – 40 points

Best Gross – Harry Fearn 66

2nd – Peter Malkin – 40 points

3rd Zarak Curley – 39 points

Nearest the pin 4th – Zarak Curley

Nearest the pin 9th – Dylan Kirkby

A big thank you to the President for his hospitality from the junior section

Ladies Day For Juniors

Ladies Day for Juniors

This was the inaugural event for the Club's Junior Section and it was made possible due to efforts and the commitment of the Ladies at LGC. The Trophy was won by Zarak Curly (69 gross) with Harry Fearn (71 gross) taking the runner up position.

The subsidiary competition for the younger junior members was won by Millie Salmon with Grace Pennington and Alex Salmon both tying for 2nd place.

Lynn Ball , Lady Captain, not only acted as starter for the competition and caddied for the more junior members, she also provided drinks and cakes at the half way house for all competitors. She went on to say "I really enjoyed walking around and chatting to the little ones and it's amazing to see how far some of them can hit the ball".

"On behalf of all the Juniors I would like to thank everyone involved for making the day a special one and I hope that it becomes a permanent fixture in the golfing calendar." Said Dave Gallimore. (Junior organiser)
