In whatever capacity you are reading this message, be it member, visitor, or merely ‘website browser’, could I welcome you to Leek Golf Club for my 2023 year of ‘captaincy’.
I have been a member for 52 years, joining as a ‘junior’ in 1971, and have lived in the Staffordshire Moorlands all my life. I feel privileged to have witnessed the ‘LGC journey’ during this period, and never get tired of playing, in my opinion, on one of the best designed courses on land and terrain available. If you are a visitor, I hope you will leave with good memories of our course.
On this theme, and although the Club was formed in 1892, 2023 witnesses the Centenary of the course and clubhouse in its current ‘Birchall’ location. The Clubhouse officially being opened on 31st May, 1923, and the course on 5th July, 1923.
As we slowly move out of the distressing period of the ‘pandemic’ and back towards a ‘new’ normality, you will always receive a warm welcome from our professional, Greg Rogula, the House team, and Office staff, to complete your ‘golfing experience’ at Leek.
The Club has a fine tradition of charitable donations, and during my Captaincy I will be supporting Alzheimer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation, and the Peter Alliss wheelchair appeal, which I hope you will support whenever possible.
Finally, I would like to thank my predecessor, Kevin Perkin, for a successful year, and introduce my Vice-Captain for 2023, Tony Lovatt.
I wish you all a fulfilling golfing year.
Peter Cordon – Club Captain 2023
