At the recent AGM on Monday 10th November Jenny Cordon of Leek Golf Club was elected as President of the Association for 2026-2027. A wonderful prestigious achievement and recognition for Leek Golf Club. Also at the AGM Jayne Baxter of Leek Golf Club was awarded her first team County Vets Colours. Congratulations to Jenny and Jayne.
Staffordshire County Vets is for lady golfers over the age of 50. There is a playing handicap restriction of 28. The entrance fee is £12 per year. There are five major competitions open to all members, Captains Day, The Championship, Nellie Wood, - Divisional prizes- Snelson Trophy and 4Ball AMAM. Every other year there is the Presidents Day for Ladies- Divisional Prizes-.
As well as this there are many County matches for the first, second and third teams against other counties. These are in the form of 4BBB comps and all you pay for is your refreshments so you get to play on many beautiful golf courses in Staffordshire and around the Midlands. This gives many ladies the opportunity to play golf for their County in very friendly formats.

Ladies’ Section Welcome – November 8th, 2025
We held one of our informal meet-ups for our Academy ladies, newer golfing members, Buddy team, and other members—bringing people together in a relaxed and friendly way. Tea, coffee, and plenty of biscuits helped the gathering along!
Nineteen of us attended, including five newer members, two from the Academy, and the enthusiastic 95-year-old Iris.
Lesley Powell welcomed the group, explaining the purpose of the session: networking, sharing updates, and having fun. The morning’s activities were introduced, and information was shared about forthcoming events at the golf club—including the quiz, the Ladies and Club AGMs, fun competitions, Winter League, and competitions organised by the Club Professional.
Ange Broadhurst, our Section’s Captain elect, introduced herself and gave details about the Christmas Dinner and her chosen charity, Animal Lifeline Serendipity Kennels. Jenny Cordon provided updates on the Winter League, including the option for working members to play on Saturdays and Sundays. She also outlined some of the rules for team, individual, and match play—an ideal opportunity to ask questions and receive feedback.
We then tackled a golf quiz, which proved more challenging than expected! It was a great chance to clear up some of the mysteries of golf and raise awareness about the rules.
An indoor putting competition followed, with everyone—including Iris—giving it their best shot. The outstanding winner was Ann Cockersole. Well done, Ann!
Words of thanks were given at the end of the gathering and have continued to come in since via the chat groups.
My sincere thanks to everyone who came and joined in making the morning a success. The support shown by members for one another is truly admirable. Particular thanks go to:
- Lynne Ball for being 100% background supporter and running the putting competition
- Ange Broadhurst and Jenny Cordon for their contributions
- Gill Armstrong and Sarah Gilson, for arriving early to help with the setup
- And Iris for joining in

LEEK GOLF CLUB LADIES HALLOWEEN HOWLER COMPETION REPORT 2025
On the 28th October 2025 Leek Golf Club Ladies hosted our Halloween Howler Competition. The format ran as a team of 3 Stableford played over 15 holes. The weather was rather blustery but stayed dry, it certainly blew the cobwebs away!
15 teams took part in a well-received competition. Teams were mixed from home and away and its worth mentioning that many of our newer members of the club embraced the competition and took part for the first time. Well done ladies we are proud of you.
Some early bookings were taken for next year on Tuesday the 27st October 2026.
A Halloween themed light meal followed the competition of with a choice of Red Pepper and Sweet Potato Soup or Chunky Autumn Vegetable, followed by some small cakes. Thanks to Paula and Tracey for the setting up and smooth running of the refreshments, and calming our nerves. A huge shout out for Gabe, our chef for the morning, who stood in at exceedingly short notice and produced the soups from scratch and kept everything flowing.
Pat and I would like to thank all the ladies who joined the Halloween Howler today. The 45 ladies that took part all seemed to enjoy the course despite the very windy conditions. The results are as follows:

North Staffs Ladies Golf Alliance - Wednesday 3rd September 2025
On Wednesday 3rd September Pat Beeson and Karen Griffiths hosted the North Staffs Golf Alliance at Leek Golf Club. A fabulous 99 ladies competed on the day.
Unfortunately, the day brought a downpour of rain and thunder but the ladies braved the elements.
Many ladies took advantage of the "Specials" menu before playing and others stayed for food after their round. One lady from Astbury Golf Club celebrated her 60th birthday on the day and brought along chocolates to share with the ladies and her team mates brought along a birthday cake. Despite the poor weather she played her game wearing a tiara and sash saying "60 today".
Many ladies were very complimentary about the course and were looking forward to returning next year.
We would like to pass these compliments to the greens staff for their excellent job in making the course look wonderful.
RESULTS
1ST PLACE - Lynne Ball, Leek GC. Jill Sherratt, Westwood. Anne Turner, Westwood.
68 POINTS
2ND PLACE - Helen Dale, Congleton GC. Rose Dent, Newcastle GC. Lisa Garnett, Barlaston GC.
68 POINTS (On countback)
Thank you to all those who took part and we look forward to seeing you all next year!
