The 2023 season so far has been a bit of a mixed bag.

Our first home game against Trentham Park had to be cancelled as the course was closed due to flooding. It has been rearranged for Monday 11 September.

Our first away game was at Stone and unfortunately ended in defeat. This was followed by home wins against Prestbury and Ingestre Park but a loss to Buxton High Peak.

We continue to have plenty of interest from our members wanting to play the matches – on most occasions having reserves. Unless called upon to play these reserves are then guaranteed to play in the next match.

Players need to be over 55 and to have paid their £10 Section membership fee.

Please keep an eye on our Seniors Section notice board for booking forms and team sheets for upcoming matches. Add your names to those you would like to play.

For any more information about the section and upcoming fixtures please contact me, our Captain Mr Trevor Smedley or any other member.

Happy golfing,

Dave Toft - Leek GC Seniors Secretary

Seniors Section update - December 2021

What a wonderful end to the Seniors Section season it was with our Christmas do

Such a brilliant turnout and it was great to see so many Christmas hats and jumpers on display - none better than Club Captain Kevin Perkins suit!!  And many thanks to Tracy Knights and her colleagues for providing an excellent Christmas meal with all the trimmings - truly appreciated by all present

Congratulations to the winner on the day Michael Jones, pipping Ken Ratcliffe on count back - both with incredible 15 hole scores of 38 points!! Sid Birch was third with 37. And to Andy Baxter who won both nearest the pins.

We also presented the trophies to the winners of the Captain's away day - Pete Clarke, and the Fred Carr Trophy - Andy Baxter

Proceedings concluded with the ceremonial handover of the Captaincy from Paul Douglas to Mike Andrews. Here's hoping Mike has as good a year as Paul

The months are flying by with more twists and turns than a Brazilian outside right!

Fixture Results played in July:

Market Drayton (H) WIN

Market Drayton (A) LOSS

Wolstanton (H) WIN

Stone (H) WIN

Prestbury (A) LOSS

Ken & I played at Market Drayton (Away) dropping 4 shots on the front nine. We were 6 down after 9 holes. Market Drayton’s Captain had back to back Birdies and numerous Pars so he clearly meant business. We eventually lost 8 + 7.

After the match I collected card, elastic bands, scissors and markers from their club office and created a mask for their Seniors Captain with the words “El Bandito” written on the inside. I said that Alan their Seniors Captain must wear the mask before every

Match to give other potential players a fighting chance. I presented the mask to him during the presentation. Everyone took it in good sport. This is what being part of the seniors is all about. Great golf and great fellowship.

We've now opened the invitation to playing this beautiful course to non-senior members as long as you are over 55 years of age. I chose Reddish Vale because a lot of people haven’t played it and it looks a really interesting course. Designed by Alistair MacKenzie and built in 1912 it attracts a lot of attention and great reviews from leading golf course architects and golfers alike. It’s tucked away nicely in an urban environment, relatively undiscovered and secluded from the outside world. I believe you will really enjoy it and of course have a great day out!

All players who have already put their names down or would now like to go a £10 deposit is required by the end of August. This deposit can be given to Trevor Smedley, Me (Seniors Captain) or to the Pro Shop in an envelope with your name clearly marked on the front.

The balance of £30 is payable on the day.

Dave Burgess

2019 Seniors Captain
