On Saturday, in fantastic conditions, 17 of ours Juniors played the May Medal across their 3-divisions, including another new entrant to our short-course division. It’s always great to see new juniors joining the club and getting out on course.

Some excellent scores were returned in our 18-hole division with Spencer Pickin coming in 1^st with a nett 60 (gross 85). Theo Khalifa and Austin Rogula continued their good form with the second best scores of the day nett 63. Theo took 2^nd on countback after a superb back-9 gross 38. Lewis Foxall returned the lowest gross of the day, an excellent 78.

The 9-hole division was won by Archie Clacher with 22-points on a back-3 countback over Freddie Brazier who was close to winning two weeks running. The short course division was this week won by Toby Dawson with a 7-under par score of nett 29 that included a birdie on the difficult 3^rd and a par on the last. It was great to see a new entrant, Stanley Tipping, taking part and returning a fantastic nett 33 for 2^nd place.

On Saturday 13^th May our President, Mike Wooton, hosted the President's Trophy for Juniors. On a great day for golf there was an excellent turnout with 18 Juniors taking part and enjoying food and a prize presentation afterwards.

There were some superb scores on the day as we’re coming to expect from our Juniors. The 18-hole division saw the top three Juniors tied on 39 points, the final result being separated on a back-9 countback which saw Theo Khalifa come out on top with 21 points. Theo Kirtley came in 2^nd whilst Albie Carter was 3^rd. Well done to all three boys, excellent scores. As well as winning the President’s Trophy for Juniors, Theo Khalifa also went home with the nearest the pin prize on the 4^th hole.

There was a similar clean sweep in the 9-hole division which was won by Freddie Brazier with 24 points, Freddie also winning the nearest the pin in 2 prize on the 7^th hole. The short course division was won by Conor Riley with an incredible 9-under par score of nett 27. The nearest the pin in 2 prize for the short course was played on the 9^th hole and won by Theo Dawson.

On Saturday, the Juniors played for the HDB Robinson Trophy and it was great to see 15 Juniors out on the course across our three divisions.

There was some excellent golf on display in the 18-hole division which was won by Oliver Carter with an outstanding 47 points with the highlight being pars on all the 3s on the front-9. Our Junior Captain, Lewis Foxall, came in second place with 42 points, a gross 78 which included three birdies.

The 9-hole division was won by Archie Knight with 22 points and a personal best of gross 57 – well done Archie! It was great to see two new entrants in our 9-hole division from Juniors on the taster package, I hope they both enjoyed the experience and we’ll see them out on the course again soon.

All the Juniors in the short course division had a fun time out on the course and their progress is already showing through – all juniors either equalled or beat their score from the first competition. Well done to all!  It was Theo Dawson who again came in first, going one better than last time with 2 birdies and 2 pars over the 9-holes, great golf again from Theo.

On Saturday, the Juniors played their first competition of the 2023 season and it was great to see 15 Juniors taking part across our three divisions.

Our Juniors have been playing a lot of golf and made a lot of progress over the winter, and this was demonstrated in the scoring. The nine players in our 9 and 18-hole divisions being a combined 58 under par and 5 under nett only being good enough for 6^th place over 18-holes! Excellent golf all round and there have been some well-deserved handicap reductions following the weekend results.

In the 18-hole division Austin Rogula came out on top with an incredible 57 nett, a result which has been coming given Austin’s recent form and progress over the Winter. Gross scoring was also impressive throughout the division, with our Junior Captain Lewis Foxall scoring an excellent 79, Theo Khalifa scoring 82 and Thomas Harvey recording 42 for the front-9.

There were only two entrants in the 9-hole division due to holidays and other commitments, however scoring was still competitive with both players beating their handicaps in what could be called ‘The battle of the Archies’. Archie Clacher, one of our new members making his competition debut, came in first with an excellent 27 points over Archie Knight with 20 points. The 9-hole division will be scored on a stableford throughout the season.

For 2023 we’ve introduced a new short course division and it was great to see 6 keen, young entrants for the first competition. There were smiles all round and the Juniors all had a great time, they did really well for their first time out and we hope to see them all again next time. Whilst the purpose of the division is giving the younger juniors opportunity to take part and have fun enjoying their golf, the score of Theo Dawson can’t go unmentioned. Theo made 2 birdies and a par over the 9-holes, almost as impressive as the fist pump that followed the birdie on the 9^th hole. Fabulous to see!

Finally, on behalf of the Junior Section, a massive thank you to the Greens Team for all the hard work which went in to having the course open and in great shape following the recent bad weather, allowing the Juniors to play under qualifying conditions.

On Saturday 25 March, the Junior Section held the presentation for their Winter League which saw an excellent turn out and was well supported by juniors and parents.

The Winter League was reintroduced after a number of years and has been a huge success, since the beginning of November we’ve had an incredible 137 scores returned. Special mention goes to Austin Rogula for submitting an incredible 29 scores!

There has been a fantastic commitment from our Juniors over the winter which really supports their continued progress and bodes well for the coming season. This is demonstrated by the excellent scoring across the board and 8 of the 10 Juniors recording a personal best, some even broke this several times!

The league has been based on a Juniors’ best 5 stableford scores over the qualifying period against a 9-hole course, level par therefore being 90 points. Our top-3 Juniors were an incredible 97 under par, despite average handicap reductions of almost 30%.

Prizes were awarded to the top-3 and all Juniors that returned 5+ scores received LGC Juniors balls and tees in recognition of their efforts. 

1^st Place – Albie Carter – 126 points

2^nd Place – Austin Rogula – 122 points

3^rd Place – Oliver Carter – 119 points
