President's Day for Men 2013 results

An amazing 171 players supported the President Alan Whitfield for the biggest event he is likely to host in his year of office. Up for grabs in terms of prizes were the main President's Prize (off 18 handicap); three prizes per division (4 divisions) and a host of others, including nearest the pin on three holes, and nearest the pin in two on the 17th.

Out in front to pick up the main prize, and get his name on the 'honours' boards was Nicholas Bowcock, a new member who came from JCB via our academy. He shot a brilliant 41 points off 11 handicap. In the first 14 holes he scored 10 x 4's, 3 x 3's and a 'no score'! Very consistent indeed.

Divisional Winners:

1st Division-Dan Smart-38 points (back 9 of 21); Dave Gallimore-38 points (back 9 of 18) & Lincoln Boulton 37 points

2nd Division-Matt Lancaster-40 points; Mark Rushton-39 points (back 9 of 18 back 6 of 13) & Stephen Hunt-39 points (back 9 of 18 back 6 of 12)

3rd Division-Mick Andrews-39 points; Roy Morris-38 points (back 9 of 20) & Anthony Mapledoram-38 points (back 9 of 19)

4th Division-Leon Bagguley-32 points; Geoff Foden-31 points (back 9 of 16) & Peter Palfreyman-31 points (back 9 of 13)

NEAREST THE PINS 4th-Tony Brearley; 7th-Mick Andrews: 11th-Jim Cumberbatch; Nearest 17 in 2-Jordan Weaver

There were 14 x two's including a brace each from Tom Nadin, James Cowburn and Phill Davies-well done to them.

CSS was 71

A big 'thank you' must be expressed to our President Alan Whitfield for his immense generosity and goodwill expressed on the day. The ladies who assisted in the Millenium Pavilion are also thanked for their help in keeping the players refreshed.

I would personally like to thank Stewart Townsend for his two hours' help at the crucial time before presentation, to check and validate all the cards with me. Such a big day neccessitates this kind of support.

As usual, please go to 'how-did-i-do.co.uk' to check full details of this event.

Divisional Cups-2013 results

Yet another "Major" appeared on the scene to whet the insatiable appetitie of those in Leek Golf Club who need the fix of a competitive game at the weekend. In fact the numbers currently are consistently high with 137 venturing onto the fairways on this Sunday blessed with high temperatures and fast greens.

We run 4 divisions, so there were obviously 4 winners on the day:

Division 1 (0 - 9)-Winner Andy Walker continued his good form with 74-5=69 after count-back from Jordan Weaver, who also scored a nett 69. Chris Alcock came in third with a 79-8=71.

Division 2 (10 - 15)-Winner Stephen Hunt 83-12=71 on count-back from David Hughes 84-13=71. Ian Barlow and Tony Brindley had identical scores of 88-15=73

Division 3 (16 - 21)-Winner Alan Lockett 86-18=68 on count-back from Ian Bratt 87-19=68. John Curley followed with a 90-18=72.

Division 4 (21 - 28)-Winner Ian Pugh 94-26=68. Ken Weir scored 94-22=72 and Paul Bradley third with 102-27=75.

CSS was 73, the highest for some weeks.

One disappointing element of the day was the number of 46 "No Returns"

The other major item of concern was the number and variety of DISQUALIFICATIONS handed out for card violations. There were 11 in total, broken down as follows:

Card not Handed In-4; Card not Signed correctly-3; No Handicap Stated-2; NO NAME ON CARD!!!-2

It is hard to understand anybody having a card without their name on it.

Players must take extra care when signing their card-Name, Date, Handicap, Player's and Scorer's signature are all fundamentals in this area of discipline.

The most costly error on the day was AP Foxhall who scored a 66 nett, but failed to display his handicap on his card, and was duly disqualified.

Centenary Cup-2013 results

126 players participated in this strokeplay competetion, an event which counts towards the prestigious Rushton Trophy. Some excellent scores resulted in perfect conditions, none more so than James Molden who triumphed with a fabulous net score of 66. James Cowburn will think himself unlucky not to have come out on top as he scored a brilliant 69 gross for a 67 net. Ross Salmon managed a 68 with four others hitting 69's.
