Roberts Cup Qualifier results

This 'major' starts with a strokeplay competition to decide who goes through to a knockout format, to decide the ultimate winner. The best four net scores or ties off full handicap determines who goes through, and some excellent scores ensued.

Leading the way with an outstanding score of 66 was Chris Lilley, closely followed by 68's from Mark Rushton, Liam Hancock and John Leeke, a 69 from Stephen Spooner, and two 70's from Rob Symon and Nigel Bowcock. Kevin Boult scored a 70, but was unfortunately disqualified for a signature violation.

These seven now go through to a knockout arrangement, the draw for which will be announced shortly.

In perfect weather conditions, but with difficulty stopping the ball on the greens, mixed with challenging pin positions, 119 players took part resulting in a CSS of 71.

Wayne Corden achieved a rare feat of an 'eagle' on the 10th. Nigel Wint achieved two 2's on the 11th & 13th. Ian Curley's 69 gross was not enough to qualify,as his +3 handicap meant his nett score was 72!

Spring Fourball winners & results

Howard Rigby and Steve Davies beat 66 other pairs to win the 'major' that is the Spring Fourball. Their score of 65 nett contained a better back 9 than Pugh & Blundred who are new members with inactive handicaps at the time of the competition. Capey & Sherratt (66 nett) were placed third. Broadhurst & Khalifa, Boulton & Spooner, Tooth & Rushton, Lilley & Walker, Hancock & Brass, Hurst & Henson all scored a creditable 67 nett.

Alan Harrison and Nigel Wint both scored two 2's on the day-all on different holes.

The new booking system appears to be working well. There are very few players not accommodated around their preferred tee-time, and 134 players shows that the rumour of the death of competitive golf is unfounded. Having said that, a regular review of the current sytem will take place, and changes made if necessary. If anyone has a problem or suggestions, please put them in writing to the hon. sec.

The full list of entrants and scores can be seen on 'how-did-i-do' and on the club noticeboard.

Birchall Bowl winner is announced!

The first 'major' winner of the year was Paul Wright, who won the Birchall Bowl on Sunday with an excellent early season score of 40 points.

In blustery conditions, and the winter rustiness of competitors not quite disappeared, Paul beat 119 other players to win this prestigious stableford event.

Other notable scores were Kevin Perkin with 38 points, with Billy Gilbert and Stewart Sherratt both earning 37 points. These were the only members to break par, with C.S.S. a very high 73.

New member SJ Dreya achieved two's on both the 4th & 9th holes.

Well done to all who participated. Details can be found on 'how-did-i-do'

Captain's Day For Men - Sunday 19th August 2012

I arrived at the Club at 7.15am to greet the first competitors and see them off the first tee.

We started and ended the day in warm sunshine which given the weather of late I considered us to be lucky. I had a Captain's Challenge on the 11th hole which raised over £650 towards my charity 'Survive Cancer'. Many thanks to all the players who took part.

The Captain's Prize was won by our Junior Captain Luke Brass with a great score of 40 points. He had a fantastic week of golf after winning 2 competitions he lost 4 shots off his handicap. Well done Luke.

Many congratulations to all our winners.
