Tuesday 14th October saw the ladies take to the course for the final competition of the golf season. The Lady Captain’s Farewell is played as an individual stableford. The days play was followed by a meal and presentation. Lady Captain organised some musical entertainment which was very well received. The ladies very quickly joined into the atmosphere mainly led by Ursula Smith and Dorothie Cowburn. Thank you Karen for giving us all a fantastic evening.
When Karen eventually prised us off the dance floor we proceeded with the presentations.
The prize winners for the day were as follows and the prizes were generously donated by Lady Captain.
Silver 1st Nora Boulton 35 pts , 2nd Jayne Baxter 33 pts and 3rd Dorothie Cowburn.
Bronze 1st Karen Wilshaw 40 pts, 2nd Janet Gilbert 37 pts and 3rd Maureen Davenport.
Prizes were also presented to ladies who had won competitions earlier in the year. Our thanks go to Sheila Hollins, Margaret Bray, Chris Birch and Morag Jones who very kindly presented prizes to the winners of their competitions. We are very grateful to these ladies and all the ladies who over the years continue to give their support to the Ladies Section.
The final presentation of the evening was the Kath Balay Trophy which was a 4BBB. John Balay very generously donated a substantial amount of money to Lady Captain’s Charity. Lady Captain decided it would be nice to use some of the money to purchase a trophy in memory of Kath, John’s wife who sadly passed away earlier in the year. The competition was played on the 23rd September and John was there to greet us on the 1st tee followed by a drink with John after the game. John presented the trophy to the winners Jennie Flower and Dorothie Cowburn with a score of 48 points. Dorothie spoke fondly of Kath as they used to play together on a regular basis.
The evening ended with the Vice Captain Jayne Baxter thanking Karen for her generosity and an enjoyable day.
