On Tuesday 16th June 2015 62 Ladies took to the course on Lady Captain’s Day one of our biggest, if not the biggest day of our season. Lady Captain Jayne Baxter greeted us on arrival with a big smile. The sun was shining and all was prepared and everything boded well for an excellent day.
We were greeted on the first tee by Michael Wootton who acted as photographer for the day. Jayne gave all the Ladies taking part a present of a ball marker as a memento of her day. Thank you for your kindness Jayne. Andrew Baxter, our Vice Captain, was the official starter and did a splendid job.
Each lady took their turn on the 1st tee no doubt with some trepidation, yet at the same time with hope and anticipation of a good round. I believe there were just seven ladies out of sixty two who didn’t hit the ball down the centre of the fairway. Not that anyone is naming or counting.
The refreshments and drinks in the Millenium hut were most welcome. We were met with a variety of savouries and delicious cakes. Sharron, Jayne’s friend and Sam, Jayne’s son prepared the food and then proceeded to wait on doing an excellent job.
Upon completion of the golf everyone gathered in the dining room and after enjoying a lovely two course meal eagerly awaited the results:
Nearest the Pin – 4th – Wendy Geston – 14’ 7”
Nearest the Pin – 7th – Jo Peacock – 5’ 3”
Nearest the Line – 17th – Jo Williams – 0’ 7”
There were some very close scores for the main prizes – with Karen Griffiths and Marion Lilley competing for 1st place in the silver division. After a count back, Back 9, back 6, back 3 and finally back 1 resulting in Karen taking 1st place.
SILVER BRONZE
1ST Karen Griffiths 34 1st Wendy Marriott 37
2nd Marion Lilley 34 2nd Janet Wood 36
3rd Angela Broadhurst 33 3rd Jan Moss 34
Finally what we were all waiting for the overall winner was
DEBBIE BARNETT with 38 points.
On behalf of the Ladies Section Debbie thanked Lady Captain for organising this special day and her generosity with all the prizes.
Lady Captain concluded by thanking all the helpers on the day. A thank you went to Denise Stazaker for the floral decorations. A very big thank you to all the ladies for taking part in what turned out to be a day to remember. The Lady Captain also thanked the ladies for the generous donation of £64 raised for her charity.
