Thursday 13th August saw 24 ladies travel to Chesterfield for our annual outing together. Fortunately the weather was fine and dry after worries about the very adverse forecast by the weather man! Unlike previous years our numbers were boosted by seven gentlemen who took advantage of the arranged package with the promise that they wouldn’t cross-dress!!
After frantic phone calls to one absentee lady (who was mistaken about tee-off time) all ventured into unknown territory having indulged in bacon baps, tea and coffee in the attractive clubhouse.
At the half-way house, hospitably manned by ‘David’, the ladies were welcomed to sparkling wine and nibbles by curtesy of the Lady Captain, with jocular company provided by the gentlemen of Chesterfield who were suitably impressed when offered a ‘nibble’ too!!Opinions expressed felt that the course was very well presented and the greens – testing.
The Leek gentlemen competed in an individual Stableford competition, whilst the ladies played a 4BBB competition. Chesterfield male Champion on the day was Ralph Harrison with 37pts, a great score on a course he’d never played before, receiving a quality bottle of wine for his achievement.
The ladies gathered for a photo shoot before sitting down together for ‘Individual Hand Raised Steak Pies’ with vegetables followed by Vanilla Cheese with berries, tea & coffee. The presentation afterwards produced the following results:-
Nearest the Pin (on 15th par 3) Chris Birch
1st Place (47pts) Pat Beeson & Karen Griffiths
2nd Place (44pts) Gill Damjanovic & Andrea Martin
3rd Place (43pts) Nel Boulton & Wendy Thornhill on the back nine (23pts) from Marilyn Boulton & Ann Cockersole (b.n.21pts) and Jan Moss & Jen Flavell (b.n.19pts)
All received a bottle of wine and vouchers to spend in Leek G.C. Pro’s shop.
Grateful thanks was expressed for the hospitality shown by all at Chesterfield G.C. and my sincere gratitude to Andrew (Baxter) for all his help on the day and Ralph (Harrison) for organising the men!
