It’s raining cats, it’s raining dogs, it’s falling from the sky. It’s fun for fish, it’s fun for frogs but oh, poor lady golfers!
The heavens opened, but that did not deter the ladies of Leek Golf Club and their guests from venturing out onto the course for the annual Invitation Day. As many of the ladies agreed, we have played in far worse weather.
The decision was made to play 15 holes. In fairness, the rain was light, with no wind, but after all the beautiful weather we have been having, it was a little disappointing. Nevertheless, we soldiered on.
When everyone had dried out and had a warming drink, we sat down to afternoon tea, which was fabulous—various sandwiches, quiche, sausage rolls, and an abundance of beautiful cakes and scones. Gavin and his catering team certainly did Leek Golf Club proud.
Following the meal, the presentation of prizes was made:
Nearest the pin on the 4th hole Gerry White (guest)
Nearest the pin on the 7th hole Jenny Cordon (Leek)
1st place(35 pts) Jennie Flower and Amanda Cowie
2nd place (31 pts) Janet Hardern and Joyce Hughes (on countback)
3rd place (31 pts) Karen Griffiths and Sam Barley
Congratulations to all our prize winners and thanks to everyone who played.
