137 players entered this competition, which was deliberately set up both as a 'major' and a monthly medal, in order to 'free-up' one of the weekend days for those who want to play social golf. In both competitions full handicap allowance was allowed.
The kinder weather allowed some very classy scoring to be displayed, none more so than Andy Martin with a brilliant score of
70 - 5 = 65 to win the Club Shield.
Divisional Awards (ie Monthly Medal winners & runners-up) were as follows:
Division 1: Andy Martin (as above); Dan Smart > 72-5=67; Duncan Stott > 68-1=67; Ross Salmon > 73-5=68
Division 2: Gerry Abel > 82-11=71; Andy Leese > 83-11=72; Nick Damjanovic > 85-13=72
Division 3: Dave Twist > 84-16=68; Charles McFadden > 86-16=70; Bruce Godbold > 91-19=72; Neil Shenton > 89-17=72
Division 4: Zulf Khalifa > 89-23=66; Dave Bradbury > 91-23=69; RJ Bates > 96-22=74
Zulf Khalifa must feel very unlucky not to have won this 'major' in his first full year at Leek Golf Club. He has already won the May Medal, and the Handicapping Committee recognised this by reducing his handicap by a further shot to 21, under the 'Exceptional Score Reduction' ruling. Duncan Stott had the best gross score of the day with a 68, made up of 11 x pars, 3 x birdies, 1 x eagle and 3 x bogies-great scoring indeed.
The handicapping committee also had to carry out the unpleasant task of disqualifying a player due to a rare transgression - NO NAME ON THE CARD!
CSS was 71 and results can be seen as usual on 'how-did-i-do' via the front page of our website.
