Jayne Baxter achieved a lifetime ambition by holing in one at the par 3 seventh hole at Leek Golf Club whilst playing in Sunday’s Jubilee Trophy. This competition involves juniors, ladies and men, and is a friendly and social event in the club’s fixture list. It is also a ‘major’ competition, so all players were conscious of performing to the best of their ability on a pleasant sunny day.
There were some excellent scores with two teams sharing the next best score of 87 points.
In second place were Stephen Fryer, Callum Nixon and Jenny Cordon with a back nine of 47 points.
In third place were Chris Lilley, Leanne Nixon and Lynn Ball with a back nine of 46 points.
Winning with a score of 88 points were Nick Wittich, Cory Wentworth and Jayne Baxter.
Congratulations to these players for performing so well on the day.
This event links different sections of the club, and provides an excellent way to integrate with those who rarely meet on the golf course. There are some very talented young players at Leek Golf Club, and this special occasion allows the future stars of golf to mix with their peers, and show off their undoubted skills at such a young age.
Peter Cordon, Junior Co-ordinator, is to be congratulated for the encouragement and development of young talented golfers at Leek Golf Club. A lot of time, hard work and dedication goes into this task of developing the next ‘Rory’ or ‘Anneka’.
A special thank you to Frances Lilley for organising the event and all players and volunteers who helped make the competition such a great success.
