Senior Captain's Quiz Night - Friday 2nd February 2024

I held my first Senior captains quiz night on Friday 2nd of February and it was an amazing evening of 16 tables with 86 people attending, consisting of members, friends and guests.

Special thanks must go to Primo and Pabna restaurants for their generous donations of vouchers for first and second place prizes.

Thanks for the donations from Karen Randle, Hammonds construction, Dave Brindley, Dan Stevenson, Sandra Williams and Margaret Perkin.

1st Prize went to the team called 10 point deduction (Stuart Townsend’s Team) 126pts

2nd Prize went to the team called Unusual Suspects (Dave Brindley’s Team). 125pts.

We raised an amazing total of £461 which will go towards Approach Dementia Support my chosen charity for the year.

Thanks to all who attended and made an amazing night, also thanks to Sandra Perkin who sold the raffle tickets for me, Tony Lovatt our (Club Captain), my past Seniors Captain Trevor Smedley, Leslie (kitchen), Nicola and Maisie (behind the bar) and all my friends, members and guests.

Last but not least our very own Quiz master Andrew Baxter and his assistant Jayne Baxter without them it would not have been possible.

Many thanks

Kevin Perkin (Senior’s Captain 2024)

CAPTAIN'S CHARITY OPEN - Saturday 30th September 2023

The Captain’s Charity Open was held on the rearranged date of Saturday 30th September 2023 after being cancelled in July due to bad weather.

Leek Golf Club Captain, Peter Cordon, hosted the day. The Captain’s chosen charities for the year are the Peter Alliss Wheelchair Appeal, the British Heart Foundation and Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Over 120 golfers played on the day. The weather thankfully was fine in the morning but unfortunately the afternoon players were not so lucky, and the rain was persistent. The course was in fantastic condition and was a credit to the green staff.

The presentation of the wheelchair in the evening was not possible this year due to the family being away. This is being arranged for a date later in the year.

The total raised for the charities on the day was over £5,000 which is a fantastic achievement.

A big thank you to this year’s hole sponsors. Your support is greatly appreciated.

I would like to add my personal thanks to the following who all contributed to a successful day. Without this volunteer support events like the Captain’s Charity would not be possible:

The Ladies who helped run the Half-Way House.

HDB Robinson for being Competition Starter, especially when the weather deteriorated!

Mike Barker, our Match Secretary, for interpreting the team scorecards. Not an easy task when teams change at the last minute (!!!).

Lastly, and by no means least, without whom this fund raising event would not be successful:

Greg Rogula, our Professional, who, in addition to the ‘beat the Pro’ on the 11th, was heavily involved in the event organisation and Bo and Clare Robinson, whose personal commitment to this charity event each year is what makes it so special.

Words cannot express my gratitude to them.

Peter Cordon - Captain 2023
