Lady Captain's 3 Shires Charity Challenge

Ladies Noticeboard : Lady Captain's 3 Shires Charity Challenge

Wednesday 30th September 2015

I didn’t realise when choosing this charity event name that it would become a misnomer so quickly and a challenge in every sense! Well worth the time and effort and delighted that it was supported by more than 3 Shires! Players came from Broughton Heath, Mickleover and Chapel-en-le-Frith in Derbyshire, Burton and Branston in Staffordshire, Hawkstone Park in Shropshire and Kilworth Springs in Leicestershire! There was also the dependable support from Westwood G.C. and members’ teams too.

We were blessed with one of the hottest September days on record so with a new trophy in hand, sponsors sourced, prizes bought, publicity literature/team cards printed and cakes made, the day got off to an early start.

Chris, from Donna Louise Children’s Hospice, had agreed to set up an exhibition of art works done by the children & family members (each with its story to tell) and spent all day raising money on the raffles and has my sincere thanks.

Asking for money isn’t easy and yet only the briefest mention that I was having a Charity Day prompted swift responses from Waterer Dental Care, Breeze House Design, Newbold Opticians and Leek United Building Society who all sponsored holes for £100. Vouchers valued between £10 - £30 were swiftly received from Sainsbury’s Store, ‘The Retreat’, DJ’s Hair Salon and Logoshack, along with a hamper from Cottage Delight and quality wine donated by Molson/Coors Brewery. Additionally, private members (Mike Andrews, Ivor Povey, Anita Wainwright, Ken Hewitt and Andrew Baxter) donated whiskey, rum, wine and golf balls as prizes, along with Denise Stazaker who produced a beautiful bouquet for raffling off.

My grateful thanks go to all these sponsors and competitors and the true winner ‘Donna Louise Children’s Hospice’ (along with a private donation) will be receiving the best part of £1000 from this event. Thanks must go to all who worked so hard on the day – David Smith (Mr Starter), all the House/Office staff, Jake and Greg in the shop for booking in and advertising on the course, Andrew (Baxter) for the production of the results and help with the presentation and the relief chef Andrew for the delicious home-made sausage rolls!!
